Sunday 7th February match report

We played a total of 4 games (2 each) against Chelmsford's 'A' and 'B' teams on a very muddy pitch.

The first game against the 'A' team we were not really prepared for, I guess the lack of both training and game time since December '09 had taken it's toll and unfortunately we lost 8-0. From the second game onwards our boys made some good progress and worked hard to improve.

Game Two: Brentwood 6 Chelmsford 'B' 0
We started and within 2 minutes were 1 nil up. The boys had obviously listened to the coaches talk following game 1 as they were really trying to get the ball out to the backs to score tries. Some good tackling was made particularly by Brody Chapman and in the end tries were scored by Henry Batty (3) Brody Chapman (1) and Michael Curry (2).

Game Three: Brentwood 1 Chelmsford 'A' 10
Despite the scoreline, Brentwood put in a hardworkimg performance, particularly in the first half where we were pretty evently matched and only 2-1 down. Some great tackles were made by Henry Batty, Brody Chapman and Daniel Game. Our only try was scored by Toby Barrow, following an excellent run made by Henry Batty, who was pushed into touch close to the try line. Following a line out, we turned the ball over and the try was given to Toby.

Game Four: Brentwood 1 Chelmsford 'B' 2
Folllowing three hard games the boys were starting to get tired as the fourth game started. Following the kick-off by Chelmsford, we were just not ready and they scored immediately. That woke us up and a close game followed finishing the first half 2-0 down. The second half brought the only try of the half. Following a Brentwood scrum the ball was passed out to Alistair Ramsey who made a long run penetrating well into Chelmsford's territory. Alistair was pushed into touch and following a lineout, the Brentwood forwards drove long and hard the ball coming out close to the try line to Michael Curry, who duly scored, his third try of the day.

Thanks to everyone for attending in the cold and muddy conditions. Despite the scorelines, the boys definitely enjoyed the games and worked very hard throughout.
