Brentwood U-12s v Stanford Le Hope RFC (A)
Sunday 5th October

Brentwood U-12s travelled to Stanford for a double-header of friendly matches against a traditionally tough Stanford team. Stanford started strongly and it was only determined Brentwood tackling that prevented an early score. Brentwood lost scrum half, Jasper Reid to an early injury which resulted in a re-jigging of the back line
Brentwood realised that they would have to up their game in the face of determined opposition and the forwards started to work hard at the breakdown to secure plenty of ball.
The Brentwood half back pairing of Cameron Wright and Dominic Gillet began to gell and with strong running from the Brentwood forwards the hard yards were being won.
As the Brentwood pack made light of the poor weather their strong driving play soon reaped rewards following a fantastic passage of play in which all the pack handled the ball and drove through the heart of the Stanford defence.
The front row of Max Judges Briggs, Henry Bird and Oscar Deventhal proved a strong unit in the tight and in loose play and the pressure brought a good try for Second Row Charlie Peacock.
As Brentwood maintained a stranglehold at the ruck and with Stanford increasingly being penalised for off side, further tries were scored by Henry Bird and Dominic Gillet.
The second half followed a similar theme and the addition of Jack Cowie added some bulk to the back line.
Brentwood ran out 15-0 winners in the first game with all players contributing to a fine team performance.

Importantly Brentwood maintained the same high standards of ball retention in the second match and with the line out working like a well oiled machine, plenty of possession was assured. Billy Summerfield was proving a real handful in loose play and almost scored a fine individual try following a 25 metre rumble down the touch line.
The backs showed some fine handling and Jack Gray and Thomas Cannon were especially assured under the high balls being hoisted as Stanford cleared their lines.

Brentwood score 4 tries and again showed strong defence in the face of a large and commited Stanford pack to allow the opposition not a sniff of the try line. The referee allowed both games to flow well and assisted greatly in letting both teams play good rugby.
