Welcome to Brentwood Under 10’s.

We have over 30 boys of mixed experience within our group. Some have played rugby with us since the Under 6’s and some are new to the world of rugby this season.

We believe success is measured, not from how many trophies we win, but by how much each and every player improves.

This approach has enabled us to develop as one of the most promising and successful sides in the county whilst at the same time giving all our players’ equal game time as much as possible.

Due to not running an ‘A Team/B Team’ system there is not a ‘them and us’ environment within the squad and we are proud that all our players feel part of the same team.

We play with determination and guts but whether we win or lose our boys are taught to always respect our opponents throughout the game and at the final whistle - then we celebrate or commiserate!

If you are interested in joining our great bunch of lads please contact me on the number/email above. Training takes place on:

Thursdays - 6.30pm – 7.30pm

Sundays - 10am – Midday.

Finally, I would like to say thank you to our sponsors: Belvedere Golf Driving Range and Horizon Roofing UK, for their continued support.

An excited Brentwood Under 10's squad went to Harlequins last Saturday to attend the semi-finals of the prestigious Curtain Raiser Cup.

Drawn in a tough pool that included Ealing and Canterbury, Brentwood they knew it was going to be a tough ask to emulate last year's success when they reached Grand Finals Day, but were eager to get going after missing so much rugby through the recent bad weather.

The first game saw Brentwood take on Tonbridge Juddians and after a slightly nervous start, Sam Cappaert continued his fine form as he crashed through the Tonbridge defence for the first try of the day. Brentwood took heart from this and started to move the ball freely along the back line which then resulted in Cappaert sprinting half the length of the pitch to score his second try of the game.

Brentwood were really beginning to dominate play but spurned a number chances to increase their lead and Tonbridge, against the run of play, scored a try just before the break. After the interval Brentwood came out determined to get the next try on the board and they did so when Nicholas Cowen jinked his way through the Tonbridge defence to put Brentwood in an unassailable 15-5 lead. This is how the game ended giving Brentwood an important first victory of the day.

Next game up was Ealing who, with their imposing forwards, were already looking as favourites for the group. This was to become the most physical (but fair) contest of the day and Caley Gray was exceptional in defence for Brentwood. Both teams played some outstanding rugby and it was only some fantastic last ditch tackling from both sides that kept the score at 0-0 at half-time. Ealing came out firing after the break and made their way down the field to score the all important first try. Brentwood valiantly tried to score an equalising try but some stern Ealing defending kept them at bay. Brentwood were hard done by at the end when the referee incorrectly blew the final whistle after awarding Brentwood a penalty 5 meters from the Ealing try line, but despite this, the players could be proud of the performance they put in against a very good side. Final score Ealing 5 Brentwood 0.

With the top two from each Pool qualifying Brentwood were still in with a chance of progressing to Finals Day but needed to beat Canterbury in the next game. Once again, not only were the Brentwood forwards faced a much bigger pack, but after the exertions of the Ealing game the players were really going to have to dig deep to maintain their high standards of play. Unsurprisingly, Canterbury started off the brighter of the two teams and took an early 5-0 lead. The game became a battle up front with Canterbury trying to starve the dangerous Brentwood backs of the ball, whilst Brentwood had to keep the equally dangerous Canterbury fly-half at bay. He only managed to escape his Brentwood shackles once but that was enough for him to score a lovely try and put his side into a 10-0 lead. Brentwood did their best to fight back and despite Cowen giving the delirious Brentwood support some hope with his second try of the day, it was too little, too late and Canterbury won the game 10-5.

Barring a miracle this meant that Brentwood would not progress to Grand Finals Day but went into the final game against Hampshire side Trojans looking to finish the day on a high. After the physical exertions of the first three games Brentwood fielded a completely different front row and the backs replacements who had waited so patiently for their chance to shine.

The guts and determination of this Brentwood side really came to the fore in this game - twice coming from behind through two Cowen tries and right at the depth with the last play of game Cappaert sprinted away from the despairing Trojan defence to score the winning try. Brentwood ran out deserved 15-10 winners and could be proud of the way they played and conducted themselves throughout the whole day. They are also gaining good reputations with other teams that they wouldn't normally play, with both Ealing and Canterbury coaches complimenting them on their style of play.

Squad: Kieran Bourbery; Caley Gray; Sam Walls; Charlie Peberdy; Sam Wolstenholme; Jack Meadows; Luke Allum; Sam Cappaert; Nicholas Cowen; Rory Inwood; Harrison Jordan; David Morgan; Robert Port; Sam Saunders; Jayden Whitmore.

Brentwood Under 10s capped a busy weekend with what felt like a 'mini-festival' versus Woodford and Maldon. All three clubs brought two teams and it was nice to see the Woodford and Maldon share Brentwood's values of not having A & B teams and mix stronger players with less experienced players. In the long run this will benefit all players. Brentwood Bulls 5 - Woodford 10

There must have been a few aching limbs from the previous days exertions at Harlequins but Brentwood scored the first try in a tight game with Nicholas Cowen scorching through the Woodford defence. Unfortunately a couple of missed tackles allowed Woodford back into the game with a quick couple of tries. It stayed this way till the end and Woodford finished worthy 10-5 winners.

Brentwood Bulldogs 30 - Maldon 0
A great start to the day for Brentwood Bulldogs with a convincing victory against Maldon. Sam Walls; Rory Inwood; and Sam Cappaert scoring three tries in the first-half.The second half continued in a similar vein with Inwood completing his hat-trick with two more tries, and Tommy Wheeler finishing things off with a well-taken try.

Brentwood Bulls 5 - Woodford 5
Brentwood Bulls second game was against a different Woodford side. This time it was Woodford who got on the scoreboard first but Brentwood battled back bravely and Harrison Jordan, who led the team brilliantly all day, scored a well-deserved try to earn his side a draw.

Brentwood Bulldogs 10 - Woodford 0
Brentwood Bulldogs registered a second win of the day with a 0-0 victory over Woodford. Inwood continued his try scoring streak with his fourth try of the day and Wheeler sealed victory with his second score of the day.

Brentwood Bulls 10 - Maldon 15
This really was a game of two halves - Maldon started off well and scored three tries in quick succession. The Brentwood boys could have easily let their heads drop but they battled back and big Sam Wolstenholme started the comeback with a trademark barnstorming try from the kick-off. Wood were really up for it now and although, due to injuries, they had 'borrowed' a winger from Woodford - they managed to get the ball to him on the wing and Tom duly scored in corner. Now only one try behind Wood battered the Maldon try line but were held up over the line on two occasions and unable to score the all important equaliser.

Brentwood Bulldogs 10 - Woodford 0
Brentwood Bulldogs secured a hat-trick of victories with a 10-0 victory over Woodford. Sam Cappaert scored all the points with two well-taken tries and the win capped off a fine days work for the Bulldogs.
